*The following must be read in the voice of Kevin Costner doing his closing argument in the movie JFK. In fact, I pretend to be that guy whenever I do an A Blogger Darkly post.
The Patriots Cheated, The NFL Is Covering For Them To Protect Itself. Lets look at the recent actions of the NFL concerning Spygate. And don’t say ‘supposed‘ because it’s ain’t ‘supposed‘ or ‘alleged‘ or anything else that might lesson the severity of what they did.
1st, it’s called Spygate. If video taping opposing teams wasn’t a huge issue, it wouldn’t have that ‘gate’ at the end.
2. The NFL destroyed the original tapes without releasing any of the information to the public. Many people don’t believe that the NFL should be accountable to the public. But my tax dollars were used to fund NFL ventures. My money built the stadium the Panthers play in. My money subsidizes the costs for the owner of the Panthers because it’d be awful if a billionaire had to invest his own money into a venture. That makes me a de facto shareholder. The NFL borrowed money which I will never see a return on. They should, at the very least, be accountable to for (possibly) illegal activity.
Roger Goddell, the wise and powerful, reviewed the original tapes and said that nothing was there that would have changed the outcome of games. He’s either stupid or a liar… or worse, he think’s we - the fans - are stupid. My thoughts:
- I don’t think he’s qualified to make that call. Is he a ref? What team did he coach? How does he know what affects the outcomes of games? Team cut players for losing .1 in their 40 yard dash times… apparently games come down to a tenth of a second. i’m sure a stolen call or two would change a game.
- If it didn’t make a difference, why did he destroy the tapes? Who in the world destroys evidence? All he did was destroy a negotiating chip with the Patriots. Now no one will know what was on the video. Who does that benefit? Certainly not us fans.
- Why weren’t the tapes released to the public? Fans deserve an explanation and some level of resolution. Reporters steal and release tax documentation, they report on personal things like past affair that have no bearing on anything. But the NFL Commissioner has PROOF that an NFL team is cheating and he doesn’t even show us a clip?
I think the NFL is protecting the Patriots. i think the NFL sees the integrity of its Super Bowl Championship Series on the line and has circled the wagons. I think deals were made. The Patriots were given a modest punishment, the NFL destroyed the evidence - and now they are quietly hoping this all goes away.
Enter Senator Arlon Spector.
Many of you think the senator should mind his own business. I don’t see why seeking the truth is such a problem. This is what senators are supposed to do. Our money was given to the NFL in the form of tax breaks, anti-trust status, funding for massive buildings and who-knows-what-else. Senators are responsible for this money, and it’s their job to call in loans when they think the investor is dirty. Thats what they do. I only wish our Senators were as active in these searches concerning their own actions.
Only 8 tapes were released. Who really thinks it was only 8 tapes. I have more video of my son getting into trouble. I have more video of Pamela Anderson sucking cock. The NFL expects us to believe that all this hubub is about 8 tapes made over 8 years, 3 of which lead to losses.
- I call shenanigans.
- If the video scheme wasn’t affective, why do the tapes span 8 years?
- If it didn’t help them win games, why are there 8 tapes.
- If there weren’t more videos, why are there 8 new tapes? The games listed are sparatic and meaningless. The games listed - in hindsight - didn’t really affect any championship. The one championship tape released was a loss.
Convenience? I don’t believe in it. When we’re talking billions of dollars, it doesn’t exist.
The NFL has already started its ‘nothing new to see’ spin. They haven’t even seen the damn tapes yet. The only way Goddell could possibly know the contents of the videos is if he requested certain tapes. Sure, the NFL has admitted to 8 videos, but that doesn’t mean there weren’t more.
And don’t forget the reported tape of a pre-super bowl walk thru. Now that tape ‘never existed‘. I wonder how much the Patriots paid to have that tape disappeared? I’m guessing a couple million and a nondisclosure contract.
Lets take a step back and use our common sense. Lets not assume the NFL has anything other than it’s own best interests at heart. Lets view Goddell for what he is - the CEO of a hundred billion dollar industry who has had the integrity of his organization questioned. When given the chance handle the situation, he destroyed evidence.
We are not pleased. I’ve written the good Senator begging him to pursue this until the NFL tells the truth. They get too much tax payer money to work below board.
